 National Phytosanitary Laboratory has the following functions:

  • Provide for the early and high quality testing of plant, plant product, soil and pest samples;
  • Promote restriction of quarantine and other plant harmful organisms of plants;
  • Perform risk analysis in respect of spread of plant quarantine organisms.
 
The tasks of the National Phytosanitary Laboratory are:
  • Regularize and maintain the quality, administrational and technical system of the laboratory pursuant to requirements of LVS EN ISO/IEC 17025 Standard;
  • Perform testing of plant, plant product, soil and pest samples;
  • Provide for the fulfilment of customers wishes and increase the service level;
  • Assess, address and elaborate proposals for EPPO Standard protocols binding to the laboratory and EU directives;
  • Provide for in-service training on regular basis;
  • Provide the laboratory with high quality materials, agents and equipment;
  • Carry out training of regional inspectors and staff members, inspectors of FVS Sanitary Border Inspection in detection of harmful organisms.
  
The function of Entomology and Helminthology is to carry out entomological and helminthological testing of soil, plant, plant product samples.
 
Entomology and helminthology has the following tasks:
  • Prepare the required methods for performance of entomological and helminthological testing;
  • Perform entomological and helminthological testing of soil, plant and plant product samples in a timely manner and on high quality level.

  • Functions of Microbiology and Molecular Biology Subdivision are:
  • Perform bacteriological, mycological and virusological testing of soil, plants and plant products;
  • Perform diagnostics of organisms harmful to plants, by applying the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method.
 
Microbiology and Molecular Biology has the following tasks:
 
  • Prepare the required methods for testing provided for under the functions of the Subdivision;
  • Perform microbiological and molecularly biological testing of soil, plants and plant products in a timely manner and on high quality level.
