On 6 and 7 May 2026, as part of the grant project “Safe Food Production and Export Development in Uzbekistan”, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, training on “Planning and Conducting Surveys for Plant Quarantine Pests and European Union Requirements for Fruit Exports” took place in Fergana, Uzbekistan.

During the training, experts from the State Plant Protection Service:

  • presented European Union phytosanitary requirements for the export of fruit and vegetables to inspectors from the Agency for Plant Protection and Quarantine of Uzbekistan (O'zbekiston Respublikasi O'simliklar Karantini va Himoyasi Agentligi);
  • explained the basic principles for planning and carrying out surveys;
  • explained the procedure for taking and preparing samples when signs of plant pests are detected during surveys.

To consolidate the knowledge gained during the theoretical training, practical training was held at the grape-growing farm “Xayrullo Boymatov”. The practical part focused on carrying out surveys, taking and preparing samples for the detection of the quarantine pest Xylella fastidiosa. At the end of the training, the inspectors received certificates for completing the course.

Latvijas eksperti pasniedz Uzbekistānas kolēģiem mācību apgūšanas sertifikātus.

The colleagues from Uzbekistan (phytosanitary inspectors) valued the opportunity to become acquainted with the practical experience of Latvian experts in planning and carrying out surveys, as well as to carry out surveys together and practise taking samples.

The training was organised as part of the grant project “Safe Food Production and Export Development in Uzbekistan” of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia.
