Plant protection products are products (chemical, microbiological) for the protection of plants and plant products against organisms harmful to plants or for the prevention of damage caused, for affecting plant life processes, for preserving plant products, for destroying unwanted plants or plant parts or for preventing their growth.

Phytosanitary supervision
Phytosanitary supervision includes monitoring of organisms harmful to plants to determine the geographical distribution and status of harmful organisms in the territory of Latvia, as well as measures to ensure phytosanitary security in the country to protect its territory from dangerous organisms harmful to plants.

Laboratory analysis
The National Plant Protection Service administers the Agrochemical Laboratory, the National Phytosanitary Laboratory and the National Seed Control Laboratory. The laboratories carry out different analyses and have different requirements for the samples to be analysed.
