From 6 to 10 October, experts from Uzbekistan visited Latvia for an exchange of experience as part of the development cooperation grant project “Safe Food Production and Export Development in Uzbekistan”, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia. The delegation included experts from the Agency for Plant Quarantine and Protection (O'zbekiston Respublikasi O'simliklar Karantini va Himoyasi Agentligi), the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the Association of Processors and Exporters of Fruits and Vegetables of Uzbekistan.
During the visit, the experts from Uzbekistan learned about European Union food safety requirements, the principles of integrated plant protection and their practical application, as well as good agricultural practice in the control system for plant protection products.
The delegation from Uzbekistan visited farms belonging to member of the project cooperation partner, the Latvian Association of Agronomists: the farm “Vaidelotes”, the agricultural cooperative society “Dāmnieki”, the Training and Research Farm “Vecauce” of Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies, and the Institute of Horticulture, as well as the organic farm “Dabas dārgumi”.
During the visit, the delegation from Uzbekistan gained practical skills in monitoring organisms harmful to plants, applying the principles of integrated plant protection in practice, and learning about the role of non-governmental organisations in decision-making.
