The issuing of electronic phytosanitary certificates (ePhyto), has begun in Latvia, marking an important step in the digitalisation and simplification of export procedures.

At present, the State Plant Protection Service can issue ePhyto certificates for exports to Ukraine and New Zealand. It is planned that the use of electronic certificates will be expanded to other countries in the future.

The electronic phytosanitary certificate provides several important benefits for clients:

  • there is no need to visit an office to receive a paper certificate;
  • replacement of the certificate is simpler and faster in cases where changes are needed or inaccurate information has been identified;
  • the document circulation process is more efficient.

For the practical use of ePhyto, clients interested in this option are invited to contact the inspectors of the relevant regional office. It should be noted that there are certain specific aspects in the preparation and submission of the application that differ from the previous procedure.

The digital solution was developed within the framework of the project “Improvement of Geospatial Solutions in the Agricultural Sector for Smart Land Management, Policy Forecasting and Planning for the Transition to the Green Economy”.
